Heligan Group

The challenge

Heligan Group provides intelligence-led financial services to clients working in specialised sectors such as healthcare, national security, infrastructure and technology. When I was brought onboard, my team had just taken the business through a successful rebrand, so my role focused on how that brand would be applied across key channels.

One of the first projects I led was a new reporting format for the Healthcare team within Heligan’s Corporate Finance division. Previously, market analysis had been presented through basic PowerPoint decks. I transformed this into a more editorial and considered report format, designed to feel practical, stylish and readable both digitally and in print. The response was immediate, quickly evolving into a recurring monthly series before every team commissioned their own report series from us, from security technology and IFA, to real estate and infrastructure. Over time, the reports have become a valuable library of resources for Heligan’s clients and associates, helping position them as a trusted voice within each sector.

Heligan ‘primers’ form the other side of their resource library, concise five-minute articles covering topics such as biometrics, quantum computing and autonomous systems. The artwork needed to communicate specialist commentary in a way that felt accessible and visually engaging, translating technical subjects into something readers could quickly understand and absorb. Through a careful use of white space, structured grid systems and consistent imagery, I created a visual language that gives the series cohesion without feeling templated or repetitive.

Data visualisation is a core part of Heligan’s design system. Across reports, presentations and primers, information needed to feel digestible. I developed a flexible and visually appealing framework for presenting data through tables, charts, graphs and maps. Varying the format data is presented keeps longer reports engaging to read, helping insights feel easier to retain.

When Heligan wanted to evolve their Investments division’s landing page, I designed a hero animation. The sequence pitches Heligan as a growth partner for the national security and defence tech companies they target. The storyboard, and resulting animation, achieves this by validating founder pain points around navigating complex defence procurement, then demonstrating how dual-use capabilities can scale into lucrative sectors like automotive and pharma. By leveraging visual montages of critical technologies, visual metaphors inspired by growth and top-tier security clearance credentials, the narrative builds credibility and trust, ultimately resolving in a vision of strategic growth. Careful pacing and restrained motion create a sense of confidence, allowing the animation to feel sophisticated and purposeful.

Heligan Strategic Advisory (formerly Strategic Insights) is a specialist intelligence and investigations division, supporting organisations that operate in high-risk environments. Repositioning the division meant rethinking the way they show up online. I focused on establishing a design system that mirrors their high-stakes authority and discretion, combining value statements, quotes from the team, resources and stylish service cards that make the complex content easy to navigate and interact with. I also developed a supporting pitch deck for the team to continue their conversations offline.

The look and feel is anchored by a commanding, dark-mode palette exclusive to Strategic Advisory, evoking institutional trust suitable for a team drawn from law enforcement. Supporting photography and motion graphics reinforce Heligan’s position as a credible voice within complex global landscapes. Transcripts are included alongside videos, ensuring the narrative is still indexed by search engines and surfaced by AI chatbots. A structured, three-step onboarding flow alongside the call to action demystifies the client journey at the point of conversion, and unites editorial sophistication with strategic purpose.
